Plein Air Painters of Hawaii (PAPOH) is a non-profit group whose mission is to foster and promote the advancement of plein air painting in Hawaii. Plein air painting is done on outdoors, and provides different challenges and rewards than painting in the studio. Plein air painting allows painters to be in the midst of the experience while they capture the fleeting natural light and express the mood or atmosphere of a location. Hawaii is a rapidly changing place, and plein air painters capture a little bit of history with each painting.
PAPOH is the only statewide juried plein air arts organization, and was featured in a 9 page article in the August 2005 issue of International Artist Magazine. Many of the painters are sought after by collectors worldwide. PAPOH currently has 21 Signature Members, 3 honorary Signature Members and 90 Artist Members. Signature Members were juried in by nationally recognized plein air painter John Cosby at the inception of the organization when it formed in 2005 by founder Jan Bushart.
PAPOH has only one juried show a year. This year, the Plein Air Painters Of Hawaii Second Annual Juried members Show is being held at Maui Hands in Paia and is being juried by well respected Hawaii plein air painter, Darrell Hill.
This show is a rare opportunity for collectors to purchase paintings from many highly regarded artists in one location. Most of the artists will be at the reception, which is on December 15th, 2007 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. No purchases will be allowed until the doors open at 5 p.m. |
