Susie Y Anderson
Susie Anderson's luminous oil paintings capture, in her own impressionistic style, the beauty and charm of the Hawaiian Islands. She is passionate about painting outdoors "en plein air" and is continually inspired and challenged by island landscapes and seascapes with their abundant color, changing moods, and high drama.
Susie's paintings grace private and corporate collections across North America in addition to the permanent collections of the State of Hawaii and the City & County of Honolulu. She has won many honors for her work including four "Best-of-Show" awards. She was juried into the prestigious "Artists of Hawaii" show at the Honolulu

Academy of Arts, and American Savings Bank selected 14 of her paintings for its 2001 wall calendar. American Express Company showcased her talents as the featured artist at the 2002 ASTA World Travel Congress in Honolulu and commissioned her to create a special painting for Jim Lovell, Apollo13 astronaut and ASTA Keynote Speaker. Commemorating its 40th anniversary, Buzz's Steakhouse commissioned a painting for it's 2003 lunar calendar.
Arriving in Honolulu from California in 1969 with degrees in medical illustration and graphic design, Susie helped build a media center at the University of Hawaii School of Medicine. It was during

this period that she began oil painting, gaining a solid foundation from notable island artists Gloria Foss and Lau Chun in both realism and abstraction. In 1984 she took a hiatus from her paintbrush to concentrate on developing her own unique litigation graphics firm, Visually Speaking Inc. Feeling the overpowering desire to bring fine arts back into her life, she picked up her paint-brush again in 1999 and hasn't looked back. Susie was fortunate to study on the mainland with renowned painters Kevin MacPherson and Charles Sovek, who further influenced her style and approach. Although landscapes and

seascapes interest her most at the moment, she enjoys an occasional figurative piece and definitely plans to revisit her abstract roots. These days, you might find Susie at inspiring island locations-especially at sunrise or sunset, armed with her paints and French easel-interpreting Hawaii's remarkable light on canvas. Whether in her studio or "en plein-air," painting is Susie's way of rediscovering and preserving the magic of the Hawaiian Islands.
Susie is represented by Nohea Gallery and The Gallery at Ward Center in Honolulu, and on Maui by Maui Hands and Kaukini Gallery. Her fine art reproductions can be found in over 25 galleries island wide including the gift shop at the Honolulu Academy of Arts. She serves as a board member of the Association of Hawaii Artists and is a 27 year member and past president of the National League of American Pen Women, Honolulu Branch. She lives in Honolulu with her husband Gary and their cat Cheech.
