Mark N Brown
Mark N. Brown, native to Hawaii has been painting plein air since 1993. All of his paintings that he supplies to galleries and commissions are done on location. The size of canvas that he is comfortable with outdoors range from a medium length of 16" x 20" to sometimes as large as 48" x 180". With Hawaii's weather being good year round, it works in the plein air artist's favor. One rule that he sets for himself that makes him commit towards finishing it completely outdoors is he never takes along a camera. In addition to painting, Mark teaches with
the University of Hawaii at Manoa Outreach College with a class titled "Painting on Location in oils/acrylic." He also organizes a weekly uninstructed life drawing class at Chamanade University since 1988. In 2000,American Savings Bank selected 14 of his paintings for their Island wide featured calendar. In 2001,the mayor's Office of Culture and the Arts purchased Waimanalo View, a painting done plein air measuring 48" x 84" which now hangs in Mayor Hannemann's office
In 2002,the Haleiwa Arts Festival selected Mark as their feature artist. Aloha Airlines has selected paintings from Mark for inclusion in their 2002,2003, and 2005 executive calendars. In 2004,Mark was invited to participate in the San Luis Obispo plein air paint out competition. He is currently working on a mural for the City and County of Honolulu Oahu Regional Park. His paintings are seen at the Haleiwa Art Gallery, Sunshine Art Gallery, Bethel Street Gallery and the permanent collection of Pacific Beach Hotel in Waikiki.
