Sal Alvarez
Born in La Jolla, California in 1951 of Mexican heritage, Sal's grandmother would tell everyone that he was a reincarnated artist from another time. For this time, for this place, he was different and it was noticed from early childhood. He began achieving recognition, winning awards and selling artwork in his early teen years. In 1985 he was rescued by Stuart Pivar and friends as one of the "twelve most promising young artists in America," and received a full scholarship to the Master's program at the New York Academy of Art. Here he studied classically under such notables as Xavier de Callatay, Ted Seth Jacobs, Edward Schmidt and Elliot Goldfinger. Sal graduated at the top of his class in 1986 and as a gift, hopped on a plane to paradise. He has been painting (albeit reclusively) in Hawaii ever since. He continues to win national recognition through organizations such as Windsor and Newton, The National Headache Foundation, Simon Schuster publishers, Hilton Hotels International as well as being represented in private collections throughout the world.
